Young 20 year old songstress, Gina Horswood, together with her elder sister Melanie, hails from the tiny town of Chinchilla which lies 300km west of the Queensland capital of Brisbane. Not unlike the successful Chambers Family Band, Horswood also began as a family band when the girls were very young. With plenty of country music festival trophies to their names, and having worked alongside Pete Murray, Kasey Chambers, Mia Dyson, and Andrew Morris, the two sisters are seasoned performers with a lifetime of diligent rehearsals creating the very best of sister harmonies. The characteristic highs and lows of rural living, along with her own personal challenges, inspired Gina to start penning songs from the tender age of 13. Now, in 2006, the distinctive combination of their extraordinary voices come together to move into your heart and stir your soul like only few artists can do. Comparing their organic blend of alternate country and roots orientated music, it is difficult to measure it against anything else; highlighting that it certainly has its own unique value. It is plainly obvious that, at still only 20 years of age, Gina’s writing ability reflects a maturity well beyond her years. As producer Michael Flanders explains: “Lyrically, this material is as deep as a well.” Having recently launched their debut album ‘Our Way’, Horswood is undoubtedly on the road to gaining world wide acclaim. Ritchie Yorke, Senior Music Writer for The Sunday Mail (and Rock author/journalist since 1963), agrees: “When I first heard the vocal talents of Gina Horswood, I was absolutely floored. Every now and again, someone comes along who seriously grabs your attention. Gina is one of those and there can be no doubt that she’s going somewhere pretty damn special.” |
